Occupant Admission where we have had about 17 occupants in the course of the year. The different shelter occupants came for various reasons that include homelessness, healing and rest. Shelters are much needed as they have been a home and has created sense of belonging to the various shelter occupants. Its brutal out there and the sense of knowing one does not have a roof over one’s head is sickening as there is a lot that happens like rape from staying out in the streets, drugs to help them cope with the cold in the night. We believe Rella House of Hope has been bale to provide a safe haven for the unfortunate.
Raids for long have been a way communities and police show their dissatisfaction towards the LGBTIQ community and this leaves shelters marked as they are an easy target for long shelters have been receiving attacks Rella Hope of Hope inclusive these attacks have been rampant and for safety the occupants we had to vacate the place. WALAI shelter gave us refuge and this helped the shelter occupants move on from the raid by the policemen.
Through their stay the occupants were engaged in different activities like baking and shoe making where 1of the Rella occupant picked a leaf and wants to take the skill further. Such activities help us get grounded, busy and occupied as it leaves no room for idleness and mischievous behavior. Hence moving towards bettering one’s life.
Fundraising for the shelter space has been active and from the different proposals sent in we managed to acquire space for the new shelter and office premises. We hope this hope is free from attacks as we put measures to prevent it from happening again.eg security trainings, personal vigilance and having a night guard that would assist in securing the premises.
